Instructions to enable ATI Tray Tools to run on Vista x64 (by talon_262)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
(NOTE: The following steps must be done from an Administrator account.)
1) Enable the test signing mode in the Vista boot loader from the command prompt
(below) or from a BCD editor such as EasyBCD, then reboot your system:
bcdedit.exe /set TESTSIGNING ON
2) Install ATI Tray Tools (if it's not already installed), preferably in the
default location (%SystemDrive%\Program Files (x86)\Ray Adams\ATI Tray Tools;
this is usually the C: drive). After installing ATT in Vista x64, "Cannot start
low level driver" errors will come up when you try to start ATT; close any ATT
error boxes.
3) If you are reading this, then you've already extracted the "ATT Vista x64
Driver Signing Utility" folder to the root of your %SystemDrive% (again, usually
the C: drive). There are two batch files included in this folder
[attcertcreate.bat and attdrvsign.bat] to automate the process of self-signing
ATT's atitray64.sys driver and re-installing it; if necessary, simply edit the
batch files in Notepad (or another text editor, such as PSPad) to point to the
right ATT and ATT Vista x64 Driver Signing folder locations and save them.
4) In EXACTLY this order, run attcertcreate.bat to create and install the ATT
certificate, then run attdrvsign.bat to backup, sign and copy ATT's
atitray64.sys driver back to the ATT program folder.
5) Go to Start Menu->All Programs->ATI Tray Tools and click the Low Level Driver
Installation shortcut. At this point, the low level driver should show to be
installed, but not running; if the signed atitray64.sys driver has been copied
over, click on the 'Start' button in the Low Level Driver Installation dialog
box. If all is well, the low level driver should now be shown as running and
you should be able to run ATT without low level driver errors.
IMPORTANT: Whenever you install a new version of ATT, you'll need to repeat part
of this process, otherwise ATT will not load until the new atitray64.sys driver
is signed. To update the new atitray64.sys driver, ONLY run attdrvsign.bat
(because the ATT certificate is already installed from before). If you're
upgrading ATT, not uninstalling/reinstalling, close ATT first, then run the
attdrvsign.bat file. Once that's done, ATT should load properly once more.
Good luck and enjoy ;-)
Many thanks to Ray Adams for creating ATI Tray Tools, the best ATI card utility
out there, IMO. :-)
